" Nostalgic homage to all things ephemeral "
I have always been fascinated by ephemeral things. As a child, I collected stamps, cards & posters.
Still Life Paintings
These days, my attention is drawn to vintage labels, particularly the advertisement on old tins and containers.
Some are timeless and enduring, whilst others are specific to the era and a product which is no longer recognized or even used.
Occasionally these tins proudly display some pricelessly outrageous claims about the product to entice buyers.
The label depiction may be visually flamboyant and seductive and purport to offer the most progressive product of the time.
I marvel at the fact that such utilitarian containers have survived
and
provide an entertaining view of graphic art and design by artists of an earlier era.
In researching these authentic creations and then recapturing them in my painting as "snap shots"
has been my nostalgic homage to a by-passed time and all things ephemal.
